The Ballad of Khurrum Awan

Here in Canada we have a couple of guys who write for various newspapers, magazines and blogs with their views on politics and anything else that catches their attention, much like the staff here at Perspective!

Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant are two journalists who, all in all, are fairly well respected in Canadian journalistic circles.

Lately, Mark incurred the wrath of one Khurrum Awan because he told some fundamental truths about how Muslims, and some Arabs, were at odds with mainstream Canadian society due to the dictates of their faith and culture.

So, good old Khurrum accused Mark and MacLeans Magazine of "Islamophobia" and took them to the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

To make a long story short there was a hue and cry throughout the land, and when the dust finally settled Mr. Awan was found to be wanting and the charges thrown out!

(I believe frivolous and without merit were mentioned!)

Now you would think this was the end of it....., but Khurrum doesn't seem to be in this witch hunt to correct what he mistakenly believes to be an injustice to his personal being and beliefs.

No sir!

Khurrum Awan is doing this for the sake of publicity and notoriety!

You know, his 15 minutes in the spotlight.

To get on with the story, after he lost his asinine fight with Mark and MacLeans, he cast his gaze around and settled on Ezra Levant as his next target because: A - He's well known. B - He's Jewish. C - That's the first guy he thought of. C - Just because. Or D - None of the above!

Doesn't really matter why, the point is he's suing Ezra for libel!

Now at this point I would like to turn the narration over to Kathy Shaidle who writes a blog called "Five Feet of Fury," and is one of the featured bloggers on my site "BlogsCanada.ca" (The Canada wide yellow pages of news and information!)

Aren't you squirming in your seat right now? Has this news not just made your entire life worth living again?? Don't lie.

I've known about this case for a while now, and already read the libel notice. It is unintentionally hilarious, full of typos and the usual belligerent Muslim "how dare you!"

See, Awan is mad because Levant criticized a letter Awan wrote to the Toronto Star.

Awan’s letter is an attempt, a year later, to change the embarrassing history of his big public campaign against Maclean’s. He was eaten alive by every journalist in the country, and was made a laughingstock in the blogosphere. Even his fellow sock puppets had the sense to abandon his suicide run. Not Awan: he’s still proudly out there calling for more censorship powers for the government. If I were a Canadian Muslim, I’d be pretty embarrassed that Awan was claiming to speak for me.

It’s boring to read such whining. Awan was whiny in response to Maclean’s magazine; he was whiny on the stand at the BCHRT. He’s whiny in his endless Op-Eds. And he’s whiny in this rambling libel notice.

But whiny or not, this suit will cost Ezra Levant money.

He and I and others are already being sued for criticizing a former Human Rights Commission (HRC) employee who spent time with "neo-Nazis" on the internet.

Ezra also has other cases against him, all HRC related -- and now this.

Plus a new baby.

So once again, he (and I) are calling on the blogosphere to help out financially.

Since all our troubles started, the economy has taken a nose dive. Another friend of mine just got laid off, joining me, my husband, my co-author and pretty much everyone I know in the Right Wing Jobless Club.

I know many of my readers are in the same situation.

But: even though this lawsuit is literally a joke, it will still cost Ezra Levant thousands of dollars to fight. Just filing all the necessary paperwork costs time and money. (Unlike SOME people, Ezra doesn't act as his own lawyer -- he's no fool...)

So PLEASE give what you can (again) to Ezra Levant's legal fund.

Make no mistake: this is not personal. This is another case of SOFT JIHAD.

Belligerent Muslims are using our own societal structure and institutions (like the legal system) to silence their critics.

The soft jihad will not succeed -- but ONLY if we don't weary of the fight, and help each other out.

So there ya have it folks! If you need a cause to rally around, I personally can't think of a better one, and God knows Ezra and Kathy need all the help they can get!
