Scientifically, agnosticism makes more sense than strong atheism or theism, where we are certain one way or another.

Bad Economy? Want a good job? Best job in the world!

This is good enough that I only have to present it here.

Something like this stands by itself with no comment necessary!

G20 no Financial Picnic!

I turned on the BBC world News this morning to see if they had any new stuff about the G20 summit in London, England and I was not disappointed.

The economy is on every one's mind and on TV it was "here a news," "there a news," and "everywhere a news, news!"

They call this one the G20 since conditions are bad enough that they wanted to get everyone possible in on the action instead of the usual G7 or G8 countries that normally show up!

One thing I did notice about this whole thing was the polar-opposite approach to the problem taken by North America against that proposed by the E.U.

Obama, (and by proxy Canada) are taking the position that the only way out of this mess is to spend, spend, spend, while the Europeans seem to think that tightening their belts will better address the financial mess we are in.

After all is said and done, a compromise and consensus will no doubt be reached by all, except of course the French, who are already making noises that they will go it alone if they don't get their way.

Now let's be franc/frank about the French! (I couldn't resist that!) These bunch of whiners never agree with anyone anyways, so it's no surprise that they're making waves again but fortunately everyone is so familiar with their petulant ways that they might be shown the door before they have a chance to slam it behind them.

(On a side note, we here in Canada know all about the French. We have had to listen to them ever since The Battle of the Plains of Abraham, [Also known as the Battle of Quebec, and the French and Indian War in the United States] which was a pivotal battle in the Seven Years' War. We try and ignore them but after 250 years of bitching about losing North America to the British but they are starting to wear a bit think on our collective patience.)

Other than the perennial "French problem," what is making the most news is the protesters that have almost closed down sections of downtown London. We just got word that a bunch of hooligans have occupied the Bank of Scotland building and barricaded themselves inside.

These 'Anarchists" are a motley group that is against anything from Capitalism to our current monetary system.

Either that, or it's just another excuse to have a big party and wreck stuff. You know, University students!

But, if they are true Anarchists, what they want to do, is do away with money!

No really, they are almost as bad as the Luddites. This are a group who is against anything new in general They are just like the Amish, without the religion!

I guess they want to return to the barter system or something!

That's all well and good but not very realistic.

Where are you going to find a cow or some chickens to barter with in the middle of London, England?

Bet they never thought of that eh?

April Fool!

Although I have said many times over that I do believe in a God, I have to say in all honesty that I will never believe in the God portrayed in the Bible, The Koran or any other Earthly Holy Book!

To me, to believe in the Bible or the Koran, (Especially a "Literal" Bible) is about as stupid as thinking this wonderful Universe just serendipitously popped up out of nothing one day!

It ain't gonna happen folks. And I feel strongly enough about this to be comfortable with my decision.

But, since this is the first of April, I thought this little story might be appropriate!

In Florida, an atheist launched a case against the observance of the Easter and Passover Holy days.

He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, and Jews and observances of their holy days.

The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized Days.

The case was brought before judge Edward Johanson . After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case Dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case?” The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet My Client and all other atheists have no such holidays."

The Judge then said; Yes you do! Your client, and you Counsel, are woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar states April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states: 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.''

Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, Then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day.

This Court stands adjourned.
Now not only am I no fool, but rather an opportunist who might adopt all three religions and combine them into one.

Call it the "Church of Allan!'

If we combined Christianity, Judaism and Islam then we would have all those holidays to celebrate plus............... Muslims have Friday as their holy day, Jews have Saturday and Christians have Sunday so we would have a three day weekend as well.

Another good reason to join the "Church of Allan"

(There would be no penance to do, no commandments to follow, [since you are old enough to know what's right and wrong,] no special diets or observances, no trying to convert or save someone else, no dress code......... none of that stuff. All you have to do is take a second or two each day and thank God for this wonderful universe we live in!)

-Allan; Great article
Kimber L.

-Allan; How about this instead: How about I work 10-20 hours a week cooking in a charity-based kitchen facility for people who otherwise would have no dinner and give freely of my time and my talent toward that end?
Would I still have to acknowledge the Church of Allan or any other? (I think not)
Kenn T

-Sorry, I am not totally humorless - I dig the joke, I appreciate your humor about the Church of Allan, etc. It's merely that I tire of people thinking that God's name is the only motivator in doing good deeds or giving unselfishly.
Happy April Fool's Day, Allan.
Kenn T

-Kenn, OK, in your honour we are going to have one commandment. Ya have to do a certain amount of weekly charity work instead of tithing!
Allan Janssen

-AllanI have my own private religion. There are only two sins: Harming other living beings in any way. Harming our environment which we leave for others. Want to fault me or join my religion?
Leo L.
-
Leo; I have often thoght that the ideal religion would only have one rule; Non Interference, do anything you want as long as you don't interfere with someone else's right to do anything they want!
