Liberal
leadership hopeful Justin Trudeau says he would welcome Ontario Premier Dalton
McGuinty’s entrance into the race to lead the Federal Liberal Party.
With Monday’s
resignation, McGuinty is suddenly free to run for the federal Liberal
leadership, and if he does, he’ll have a ready-made campaign team all set to
go.
For the past
month, a draft campaign has been in the works to persuade McGuinty to jump into
the federal fray.
Trudeau says
McGuinty has served his province and country well and would add to what he
insisted will be “a strong and robust leadership race.”
The perceived
front-runner said today in Halifax that he didn’t want to speculate on
McGuinty’s plans, just one day after the Ontario leader announced his
resignation, but did say that if McGuinty did run it would be an interesting contest!
To get the the
whole thing started, Trudeau has challenged McGuinty to a boxing match ……….,
much the same as the fight he had with Conservative Sen. Patrick Brazeau.
(You might
remember that in a stunning upset, Trudeau brawled his way to a third-round TKO
victory over Conservative Sen. Patrick Brazeau. The slender eldest son of
Pierre Trudeau pounded his foe into submission during the first round with a
series of unschooled but powerful haymakers. In the second round, his attack
became unrelenting and Brazeau was clearly exhausted. The referee stopped the
fight in third and final round..)
No word yet from
the McGuinty camp, but rest assured that “The Perspcective Research Department”
is followong this one with great interest, and we will let you know the moment
we hear anything!
