Just to show you how absolutely crazy this whole election thing has gotten in the States, there are more than a few people throwing around the suggestion that Sarah Palin should be Donald Trumps running mate!
(I am so flabbergasted that I don't even know how to respond to this. I'll let you know if I come up with a snappy comeback!)
JUST TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT! From the CBC files:
Prominent Quebec actor Roy Dupuis, who turned down a role in The Revenant, is criticizing the Oscar-nominated film for its "disappointing and shocking" depiction of French-Canadian fur traders.
"The only French-Canadian characters in the film, the coureur des bois, are, in my opinion, the most reviled characters in the film," he told Radio-Canada's Alain Gravel yesterday.
The film is a quasi-historical drama depicting the perilous journey made by 19th-century American fur trapper Hugh Glass. It follows Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, as he seeks revenge against those who left him to die after he was mauled by a bear.
A group of unscrupulous and violent French-Canadian trappers appears several times in the film, framed as raping, murderous villains in the brutal frontier tale.
"I find it disappointing and shocking because it's really contrary to the reality of the vast majority of French-Canadian fur traders of the time," said Dupuis.
"It was really men who embraced the indigenous culture, who learned their language, who married into the culture and had families."
The Revenant is nominated for 12 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.
The trouble with letting asylum seekers and refugees into your country without vetting them first is becoming evident in Sweden kids.
Although the country only has about one third of the population of Canada, they admitted over 160,000 refugees in the past year. The only problem is that none of them were checked out first, they just arrived at the door.
Sweden found out it has to deport about half of them ....., and doesn't know where to send them. (The Swedish government fears many people whose applications for asylum are rejected will go into hiding)
O.K. kids, this article might be a bit long, but it helps explain the many times I have ranted on these pages that conspiracy theories are just a bunch of crap!

Although he seems to be talking directly to the conspiracy-minded with this piece, Grimes is not idealistic about its impact.
"I think true believers will never change their views; in the words of Leon Festinger, 'A man with a conviction is a hard man to change,'" he said. "While these people are ideologically deeply invested in a given narrative, I would hope that this paper might help the more rational people who have maybe heard some claims and want to ascertain if they're probable or not."
