There is a guy from Toronto who learned the hard way in a Sarnia court that you shouldn't try and make soup from an endangered species of turtle.
The "Perspective" news department got wind of the upcoming trail of Kung Wing of Scarborough, who hired a couple of Indians to take him turtle hunting on the Walpole Island Reserve.
Seems he wanted them for his restaurant.
Walpole police found 28 Blanding turtles in the back of Wing's pickup truck, which was O.K., but they also discovered one spotted turtle, and they are on the endangered species list.
The natives had told him about the spotted turtle, but he ignored them and kept it anyway, so this led to a charge under the "species at risk act" and when he was convicted yesterday he got a fine of $10,000.00 dollars!
You heard right, that's ten thousand bucks, bunky!
In retrospect it serves Kung Wing right for poo-pooing the law and disregarding an endangered species.
It also goes to show that when making soup, you should not mock a turtle!!!!!
