Politics is a strange business and once in a while it gets really strange.
We have an election on the way here in Canada (Even though the U.S. Presidential election is grabbing all the headlines) and that automatically opens up the silly season for political shenanigans and posturing and proclaiming and pronouncing and promoting stupidity.
Everyone will say anything if they think it will make political points, and sometimes just to hear themselves talk.
The latest Canadian incident is tame compared to the mess in the U.S. where you have an out of control President trying to get his last few licks in before his time is up.
But! What we have here is a good example of just how far politicians will go to try and score some points.
First the background for all our non-Canadian friends.
There was an outbreak of tainted meat that caused the death of over a dozen people from lesteriosis or listermint or something or other, and when one of the Conservative Ministers commented on it he referred to it as a "death by a thousand cold-cuts!"
Didn't the Liberal Party jump on this and scream about his "insensitivity" and "callousness" and immediately call for his resignation.
Hey, excuse me boys and girls, but personally I found this bit of black humor to be quick witted and hilarious.
Now I will admit that if you were a relative or friend of one of the victims it's not so funny, but let's face it kids, humor is the ability to laugh at the misfortunes of others.
Always has been, always will be!
To display this false indignation over a remark made in private is not only silly but downright childish.
But then again, that's usually what politics is all about, isn't it?
