We stand on guard for thee!

For reasons far too complicated to go into here, I spent about 30 years living in Sarnia, Ontario. (That's something else I can blame my "ex" for!)

If you're not familiar with the geography of the area, Sarnia is situated at the bottom end of Lake Huron, where the St. Clair river goes down to Detroit Michigan, which is about about 60 miles to the south. (This is not nearly far enough, but that's another story)

During my younger days we went across the river for our "night out" because the bars and clubs were better in Port Huron, and with the low Canadian dollar the shopping was a lot cheaper as well.

Back in the 70's, and even up through the 90's, it was as if the border didn't exist if you were a local.

The customs and immigration guys on both sides would see the local license plate and more often than not just wave you through.

Same with boating....! Hop in the boat, cruise over to the Black River and one of the many restaurants and bars on the water, and have a grand old time with no worries about the Gestapo busting you.

My how things have changed.

The St. Clair river, what used to be a part of the "World's longest undefended border," is now a wasteland of a dozen guard towers (Like you see around prisons) and water and air patrols by everybody and his brother.

The National Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard, The Port Huron police boats, the St. Clair County police boats, State Trooper boats, various suspicious looking NSA or CIA or FBI or NFG boats, a balloon, (I kid you not, they have a huge balloon floating over Port Huron with all sorts of sophisticated spy stuff on it!) coast Guard Helicopters, State police helicopters, the occasional jet from Selfrige Air Force Base near Detroit, navy seals and other scuba divers underwater and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a submarine or two in the works as well! (I'm not making this shit up folks!)

And, just so the U.S. government doesn't think that we are slacking in our duty, we have Sarnia police boats, OPP boats, Canadian Coast Guard boats and helicopters, "CSIS" spies on the shore and Dudley Doright of the Mounties on duty as well.

You couldn't sneak across the border now if you wanted to ..... THERE'S NO ROOM KIDS!

Oh yea, I almost forgot! Ya also need a passport to get across now!!!!!

Now here is the kicker boys and girls.

Absolutely nothing has changed from those good old days of the 1970's except maybe a few more Indians smuggling cigarettes and the U.S. Government's paranoia.

Do ya think we have a problem here?
