It's a Wednesday morning and as I was sitting here enjoying my morning cup of coffee my mind wandered here and there as it usually does when not pressed into service by some immediate concern or task.
Over the past few days it has repeatedly drifted back to thoughts of my upcoming hip replacement operation which is now less than a week away!
I have never had an operation before and believe me, if there was anything I could do to avoid this one, I would be doing it!
BUT!
The pain of a bad hip alone is more than enough to make me look forward to my hospital stay, so this makes a good rational to justify doing something which goes against my very nature.
I spent the last few days getting prepared for the operation and this included getting a walker without wheels..., crutches..., a raised toilet seat with handles...., a handle to get in and out of the tub easier..., a stick with a claw in the end for picking up stuff on the floor...., a big plastic type thing to help me put my socks on...., a scrub brush on a long handle on it so I can wash my legs and feet when I have a shower...., an arrangement with "meals on wheels" for a daily dinner delivered pipping hot to my door....., personal support workers to come over and help me have a bath, get dressed and get around...., counsellors to counsel me about stress fatigue from the operation...., a TV for my hospital stay...., letters to all my friends and relatives in case I don't make it through the operation......!
OK, I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea!
I always thought that arthritis and hip replacements were for old retired people and not someone my age, but what is and what should be are two different things.
The sooner I get this over with, the sooner I can start getting mobile again.
I can also work on losing that 50 pounds I gained through lack of exercise!
One more thing, between being borderline fat, and someone who walks like a crippled old man, this has ruined my reputation for being great in the sack! ;>)
