We could be travelling to the stars by now!

With the advances in science and technology we have witnessed during the last five centuries just imagine how much further we will be in about a thousand years from now!

Imagine it's 3010 and all the major diseases are curable, people live hundreds of years in relative health, poverty is a thing of the past and we are sending the first settlers to Alpha Centauri, since most of the planets in our Solar system are well colonized by now!

The reason I ask this question is because the Catholic Church and a guy called Constantine, along with all his buddies and contemporaries, set us back a thousand years in our development (During the dark ages!) and not too many people realize this!

(I am not going to go into all the wonderful things we may have invented and accomplished in a thousand years, but rather just want you to think about how far along civilization would be if the dark ages from about the third to the fourteenth centuries had not occurred!)

Back in 325 C.E. they had a little get together called "The Council of Nicaea," because a guy called Arius was spreading rumours that Jesus was not really the son of God, but only a man.

(This whole Divinity thing is back with us today too!)

During the Council they told all the Christians, (And GOD, by the way!) that Jesus really WAS Divine and that Arius was a heretic!

(You will see the word "heretic" thrown around a lot by these religious types!)

THEN, they got a little carried away and claimed that it was up to them to decide which manuscripts about Christianity (Out of the hundreds floating around) were true, and which were heretical!

(There goes that word again!)

Sooooo! They did a whole bunch of chopping and changing, and when they were finished they had thrown away most of the good stuff except for what was fashionable at the time......., or what they had a particular soft spot for!

Voila! "The Bible!"

The literal "Word of God!"

So was that the end of it?

Oh no bunky!

Not by a long shot!

These guys were just getting warmed up!

There was still all that other stuff floating around that they, in their wisdom, had decided was bullshit, and they had to do something about it!

Now I have to take a second here to explain that history does not record how this was done, or by whom, but this was the time when "THE GREAT LIBRARY AT ALEXANDRIA" was plundered and destroyed!

(Sagan was smart and didn't get into the reason for the destruction!)



As we can see from this video, the Library held the sum total of all human knowledge at that time, including many scrolls that contradicted what was in the brand new first edition of "The Bible," and because of this............ it had to go!

Oh you will see theories that Julius Caesar's Fire in The Alexandrian War in 48 BC destroyed the library, or that the attack of Aurelian in the third century AD was the cause, and even that the decree of Coptic Pope Theophilus in AD 391 or the Muslim conquest in AD 642 was to blame......., but none of that is true kids!

Nope!

It was Constantine, or someone like him, who decided that there could only be one version of "Biblical Truth," and anything that contradicted, or even slightly disagreed with this, had to be destroyed!

(Why do you think the "Dead Sea Scrolls" survived? Someone hid them in some pots in a cave!)

Yes my friends, if you want the TRUTH to flourish, you had better make sure there is nothing left lying around to contradict you!

And that is why we directly, or indirectly, lost the Great Library at Alexandria....., and and set all human knowledge back a thousand years!

All in the name of religion!
