Ignore Assange!

There is a disturbing parallel between Government reaction to terrorism, and their reaction to Wikileaks!

Basically, it shows that most Governments are run by idiots!

Most Western countries play right into al Qaeda's hands by overreacting to each threat and perceived threat.

-Someone brings a shoe bomb on a plane, and for ever-after passengers have to remove their shoes before boarding a plane.

-A guy has liquid explosives, and we are no longer allowed to bring toothpaste or bottled water on a plane!

-Someone has a bomb in their underwear, and we now get x-rayed, and have our 'junk' rubbed to make sure we start our day in the right frame of mind!

And ya know the really weird thing about all this kids?

The terrorists don't even have to succeed!

No sir!

All they have to do is stir up a little shit now and then to keep us edgy, (unless the Government does this on purpose to keep the population in a constant state of panic) and the terrorists win without firing a shot.

It's the same with Wikileaks!

Despite Hilary Clinton's remarks that 'lives were put at risk,' almost nothing was disclosed by these revelations except that most diplomats work with a fair amount of competence, and some people were mildly embarrassed by stupid things they said!

Other than that there was nothing earth shattering, or serious enough to topple governments, so why all the hysteria from the Western powers!

Led by the United States, Julian Assange has terrific pressure being put on him, up to the point of being legally harassed by dubious means and false charges! It seems that reaction to these revelations from Wikileaks is out of all proportion to what was disclosed, and more in line with how terrorist threats have been treated!

If the United States and other Western powers were smart they would ignore these leaks and attempts at terrorism so that they would die a swift and quiet death!

But then again, they're not that smart............. are they?

Dear Americans: As further proof that your country is sliding towards Fascism and a Police State, if you are not "authorized" personnel, but you have read, written about, commented upon, tweeted, spread links by "liking" on Facebook, shared by email, or otherwise discussed "classified" information disclosed from WikiLeaks, you could be implicated for crimes under the U.S. Espionage Act -- or so warns a legal expert who said the U.S. Espionage Act could make "felons of us all."

As the U.S. Justice Department works on a legal case against WikiLeak's Julian Assange for his role in helping publish 250,000 classified U.S. diplomatic cables, authorities are leaning toward charging Assange with spying under the Espionage Act of 1917. Legal experts warn that if there is an indictment under the Espionage Act, then any citizen who has discussed or accessed "classified" information can be arrested on "national security" grounds.

According to the Act, anyone "having unauthorized possession of, access to....information relating to the national defense, or information relating to the national defense" which "could be used to the injury of the United States or to the advantage of any foreign nation" and "willfully retains" that information, can be fined or imprisoned "not more than ten years, or both."

Air Force In Super Denial Mode: Blocks Access To News Sites Covering Wikileaks!

And we thought the Library of Congress was in denial mode for blocking access to Wikileaks. It appears the Air Force has gone a step further into denial, as it's now blocking access to over 25 sites, including major news publications covering Wikileaks, such as the NY Times and The Guardian.

Apparently, anyone on an Air Force computer who goes to the NY Times is being told: "ACCESS DENIED. Internet Usage is Logged & Monitored," Along with a notice warning people that anyone accessing an "unauthorized" site may be punished. Apparently none of the other branches of the military have the same thing in place, though we've heard from others in the military that Defense Department computers are blocking websites with "Wikileaks" in the title.

As Jeffrey Toobin notes in the CNN link above: "Our enemies can see the documents, but not those whom we trust to defend our country." How does that make sense?

And, of course, to make matters even more ridiculous, this is the Air Force... the supposed "cyber" expert branch of the military, these days. A little while back, the Defense Department announced that "cyber" issues were to be handled by the Air Force. Yet, they can't figure out that blocking their own access to mainstream media news sites is a dumb idea? These are the guys we've tapped to handle our country's "cyber defense"?
