Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

For the last three days, starting last Monday, we had a constant band of snow streamers less than fifty km. wide (30 miles) blow in off Lake Huron and pound us here in London, Ontario.

When it was all over last night with a wind change that blew the snow more to the north of us, we had accumulated about 150 centimeters of white stuff, which is darned close to our yearly allotment. (That's five feet for our American cousins)

I played it safe and stayed in the house for three days, and when I finally went out today I promptly got stuck in Springbank Park.

I should explain what happened here.

There is a road that goes from the west entrance of the park down to the river, where there is a parking lot.

This was all nicely plowed and as I drove down to the river/dam I noticed there was nowhere to turn around....., so I thought I might as well just keep going until I got to the parking lot and do a U turn there!

Guess what?

The idiot that plowed the road got to the parking lot and just pushed the snow into a big pile............. and then turned around a LEFT! (He had a tow-truck/snow-plow with big winter tires on it so he just turned around without making a spot for cars to turn around!)

So here I am! Half a mile down a single lane road, and at the bottom of a hill, with nowhere to turn around!

I tried to turn around in his tracks and got stuck!

Got myself out, and tried to back up the hill................ 20 times!

Got stuck every time.

Phoned the Parks Department and gave them shit for employing idiots to plow their parks.

Phoned CAA to send a tow truck!

Phoned the Parks Department again to send someone to get me out!

Phoned the Missus herself and told her I might be a while! (Oh, did I mention that I had a car full of groceries.... because that's what I went out for!)

Got a phone call from the Parks Department who said that if I was going to be rude I could get myself un-stuck.

Got a call from CAA that the tow truck driver wasn't as stupid as I was, and wouldn't go down the road I was on!

After about two hours of this I had a jogger go by on the plowed part and ask me; "Are ya stuck?"

That was the final straw......, I backed the car as far as I could up the hill......., floored it down the hill, and then spun the car in a circle with enough momentum to turn itself around....., deep snow or not!

After that it was a simple job to just drive out!

Now I just hope they don't find the body of that jogger!

NOTE! While I was trying to dig my car out of the snow I had a fleeting thought that this would not be a good time to have a heart attack, which is perfect segue into this small piece............!

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

You're really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don't know if you'll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself.

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

A cardiologist says If everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people, you can bet that we'll save at least one life.
