A good Samaratin has helped a local man put his best foot forward again by returning Jay Baird’s prosthetic leg.
Baird’s artificial leg was stolen from his bedside late Friday night while he and his two children slept. Thieves also took his wallet, about $600 in cash and a work bag.
A postal worker, who read QMI Agency’s story about the missing leg, stumbled upon the prosthetic limb laying on the ground early Wednesday morning.
Police knocked on Baird’s door early Wednesday morning and gave his leg back to the 50-year-old.
“I got my leg and my running shoe back. I was really shocked,” Baird said about two hours after the reunion with his missing limb.
The prosthetic leg was in good condition and was still attached to a pair of long johns.
Baird, who is a single father of two, lost part of his right leg when he was 14 years old after being run over by a train. Doctors were unable to save it and were forced to amputate the limb.
So far, no suspects have been found, but the Niagara Regional Police continue to investigate.
Unfortunately, as of today, they don’t have a leg to stand on!.
