Cognitive Dissonance is just another word for "Nuts!"

Dear Readers:

Your humble reporter has mention the term "cognitive dissonance" a couple of times on this blog, the most recent being a theory on what motivated the Orlando shooter to kill and wound about a hundred people.

With this in mind I was musing about the sins, foibles and transgressions of the Republicans down in the U.S. of A., and once again the most likely explanation for their insanity is 'cognitive dissonance!'

"The state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change." Dissonance is felt when people are confronted with information that is inconsistent with their beliefs. If the dissonance is not reduced by changing one's belief, the dissonance can result in restoring consonance through misperception, rejection or refutation of the information, seeking support from others who share the beliefs, and attempting to persuade others.

 O.K. Now that we have it clear about what I'm talking about ....., here's the rest of the story. (Thanks to Paul Harvey for that quote!)

"Florida Republican Congressional Candidate Greg Evers Announces AR-15 Giveaway After Orlando Massacre!"

Did ya get the full gist of what that headline means bunky?

A Florida Republican state senator is giving away a custom-built semi-automatic rifle in a campaign Facebook contest just over a week after a gunman killed 49 people in Orlando with the same type of weapon!

Sen. Greg Evers, who is running for the 1st Congressional District seat, announced a "Homeland Defender Giveaway" contest to give residents of the district a chance to win a custom-built AR-15 semi-automatic rifle on Independence Day.

The Homeland Defender AR-15 will also have the Second Amendment engraved in a metal plate just in front of the trigger guard.

A winner will be chosen at random from a list of those who have "liked" the "Greg Evers for Congress" Facebook page and "shared" a post from the page.

By the way, just so ya know, the National Rifle Association has given him an "A Plus" rating for the past 15 years!

AND NOW YA KNOW THE MEANING OF THE TERM "COGNITIVE DISSONANCE!"
