Dear Friends: "Let's get things back into perspective here!"
I just heard something on the TV that left me speechless with my mouth hanging open!!!!
Apparently all 78,000 elementary school teachers, as well as most Indians in the province have started to demand we erase the name of Sir John A. McDonald from the provinces public schools and maybe even all public buildings, statues, highways etc.
Why, you ask? (Go ahead, ask why ...! They want the name removed because "Indian kids won't feel SAFE" in schools that have that name!))
In spite of being the "Father of Confederation" and the guy who pushed the railway through to British Columbia he was also the guy who started what was to become our 'Residential School System.' (On a side note here: The Residential School System, in spite of taking kids away from their reservation, did a lot of good educating these youngsters and giving them a better chance at getting ahead in life, instead of just hunting buffalo and sitting around a TP. In other words, they weren't the hell holes that they are now made out to be!)
Even Canada's former Minister of Foreign Affairs has termed this whole mess as 'political correctness on steroids,' while I prefer to call it just plain NUTS!
