With the appointment of Jagmeet Singh as the leader of the federal NDP the Party seems poised to head off in a new direction.
Singh’s victory signals a big shift in how the NDP thinks about itself. In the past, New Democrats debated about power versus principle. They talked about being the conscience of Parliament. No more. Now it’s about winning. (After two years of Justin Trudeau, NDP members have decided there’s only one way to respond to his broken promises to progressive voters: defeat him and replace him.)
But Singh’s victory isn’t simply politics folks. It’s a culture shift for the NDP—and it will be for Canada too. You see, Singh is in actual fact the first Alien elected as leader of a Federal or Provincial party. (So far we have had women and blacks elected to political positions here in North America and we think it's about time that the aliens were represented too!)
Yes boys and girls, Jagmeet Singh Jimmy Dhaliwali is in fact a cone head. I know some people will consider this a racist remark, but rest assured we have nothing but the greatest respect for the cone-heads ever since they first went public by appearing on the television show Saturday Night Live many years ago and we believe they will have nothing but a positive effect on our society going forward!
We wish Mr. Singh all the best and have every confidence that he will do a fine job of leading the NDP in Canada!
