THE NAKED CITY!

This, my friends, is a problem that happens just about everywhere!

From The London Free Press:

A popular east London bakery has bought the entire Dundas Street plaza where it’s housed, with the chief goal of ending a long battle over a strip club on the property.

Lynn’s Bakery and Deli, an east-end institution known for its lunches and sweet treats, has for decades been caught up in political battles over a nearby unit, once home to Famous Flesh Gordon’s and later the proposed location for a new “adult live entertainment” business.

Now, Lynn’s owner Roy O’Connor is finding new tenants, not just for 2190 Dundas St. where the strip club operated, but for a series of units beside the bakery. Renovations and construction is underway.

“Everyone is really excited,” O’Connor said of the change, saying he bought the entire swath mainly so he wouldn’t have to deal with the threat of a new strip club opening up shop.

“Probably (there were) lots of people that wouldn’t shop here before just because of the proximity. I’m just glad not to deal with it anymore,” he added.

And soon, that may be a moot point anyway.

City politicians will next week discuss whether to remove that location as a possible spot for strip clubs. (The club was owned by Robert Barletta, a past president of the local Hell's Angel's motorcycle club and [disclaimer] apparently was a hot-bed of drugs and prostitution! -Ed.)

There’s a complicated set of rules and regulations around the locations for adult businesses like strip clubs and body rub parlours in London. Only a certain number are allowed to operate, and only at certain addresses. And when the licence for one of the locations expires, the bylaw gives politicians the chance to “delete” that property from the city’s roster.

For years, 2190 Dundas St. was one of those locations. After Famous Flesh Gordon’s and a body rub parlour called Mirage closed, there was a proposal to open both a strip club and an “exotic massage oulet.”

That proposal, along with a city hall update of the business licensing bylaw for strip clubs and body rub parlours, set off a controversial debate in London about those adult establishments and the rules around them. Residents around the plaza were upset the licence hadn’t already been nixed when Famous Flesh Gordon’s left.

“This time we’re going to be able to finally get this done and it’s going to be a great thing for the ward,” said Coun. Shawn Lewis, who represents the area.

P.S. Some may find this ironic and a little bit funny, but Roy has already turned down an application to open a "Hooters" restaurant on the site of the old Famous Flesh Gordon's!
