Dear Friends:
It was 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning and I had just finished my all-night shift on radio station CFGM in Toronto when I hoped in my car and headed for the border at Fort Erie/Buffalo.
By mid-afternoon I arrived at Bethel, N.Y. and made my way to a concert being held in some farmers field. (Luckily I had a press pass and managed to get in a back way behind the stage..... (John Sebastion was playing when I arrived, then the Keef Hatley Band, The Incredible String Band......, (so far it was pretty shitty) but things picked up with Canned Heat and then really rocked with Mountain, the Grateful Dead, (This is where I became an honorary "Deadhead,") Creedence, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, The Who, and Jefferson Airplane. Then it was a couple of hours sleep Sunday Morning until Joe Cocker and the Grease Band came on and I managed to see him from right in front of the stage, making "With a Little Help From My Friends" one of my all-time favourite songs. (I thought he was having a stroke on stage!)
By Sunday afternoon it was time to leave so...... there I was back on the highway to get to Toronto before my midnight (Sunday) shift at the radio station! (I heard the people I left behind got rather WET!) 😉
