Dear Friends!
During the 911 crisis in the United States....... we Canadians opened up our hearts and borders to the Americans so that we could help them out in any way possible! (And don't even get me started on the Iran Hostage crisis of 79 - 80.)
On the other hand......, the United States has constantly thrown us under the bus with examples like the disputes about the 25% tariff on Canadian steel, (and labelling Canada a "national security threat!") the dairy and softwood lumber deals...... and dozens of other examples.
Then there was that whole 'free trade' thing........... Responding to trade policy objections from Trudeau, Trump called the Canadian prime minister “indignant,” “dishonest” and “weak” within a span of 72 hours while refusing to compromise on a trade agreement with America’s closest allies.
Despite the president’s belief that America is being treated unfairly, several experts have pointed out this isn’t really the case. The G-7 tariff rates do not skew against the United States, and, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, America actually has a trade surplus – not a deficit – with Canada...... Karl Rove agrees, as would anyone with access to a calculator.
All in all Donald Drumpf has no qualms about hurting or insulting Canada for his internal political purposes! And this is wrong.
That also explains why he has no problem telling 3M not to send us any surgical facemasks or other medical equipment in our fight against coronavirus!
The way I see it anyway!
