Stupid Is As Stupid Does!

 Dear Friends:

The longer I think about it the more convinced I am that Americans are fundamentally different from Canadians. (I used to think that we were about the same type of folks....... until Drumpf made me think about just what was going on down there!)

There is something about the Americans that is the result of their wild west attitude, their inflexible and partisan way of thinking about some stuff... or just a general lack of education and sophistication of a large percentage of the population that makes a lot of the things they do rather weird, and/or ill-advised!

Take this headline as an example: Poll: Less than half of Americans say they will get a Covid-19 vaccine once it becomes available!

Now I can tell you that almost every man, woman and child will be in line for a vaccine shot once they become available here in Canada...... but; forty-four percent of American adults say they would get the vaccine, with 22 percent saying they wouldn't and 32 percent saying they aren't sure.

But then again these are the same people that claim we never went to the Moon, JFK was killed by the mob, Paul McCartney died and Elvis is still alive, the New World Order theory, (This states that a group of international elites controls governments, industry, and media organizations, with the goal of establishing global hegemony.)  Freemasons control large parts of the economies or judiciaries of a number of countries, and have alleged Masonic involvement in events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic and the crimes of Jack the Ripper, "The Jews killed Jesus," (Well, truth be told they didn't do the actual killing, but if you believe the bible they ratted him out to the Romans!) The Anti-Christ..... (except that maybe it's Donald Trump!) Islamic takeover of the world, UFO's, Rosswell and Alien abduction, the Illuminatti, Jews, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, 911 was a conspiracy by the U.S. government, A 2012 fatal mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, prompted numerous conspiracy theories, among which is the claim that it was a manufactured event with the aim of promoting gun control. Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has theorized that Zionists were responsible, vaccinations and fluoridation of water, GLOBAL WARMING, Clinton's assassination of political rivals and a pedophile child slave ring operated BY them from the basement of a pizza parlour......, and of course the Deep State!"

While the term is occasionally used as a neutral term to denote a nation's bureaucracy, the conspiratorial notion of a "deep state" has been revived under the Trump presidency. "Deep state" in the latter sense refers to an unidentified "powerful elite" who act in co-ordinated manipulation of a nation's politics and government. Proponents of such theories have included Canadian author Peter Dale Scott, who has promoted the idea in the US since at least the 1990s, as well as Breitbart News, Infowars and US President Donald Trump. A 2017 poll by ABC News and The Washington Post indicated that 48% of Americans believe in the existence of a conspiratorial "deep state" in the US.^[

In the modern era, political conspiracy theories are often spread using fake news on social media. 

A 2017 study of fake news published by the Shorenstein Center found that "misinformation is currently predominantly a pathology of the right."

Meanwhile, here in Canada the only conspiracy theory we have is that Santa Claus (and his workshop) are Canadian... you know..., from the "Great White North!"
