Obama-Rama said they are going to bail on Iraq!
Good move there slick!
Now, when is the U.S. , Canada and the rest of N.A.T.O. going to smarten up about Afghanistan!
I just might make this my "raison d'etre" (reason to be) folks!
The British Empire couldn't tame these wild men of the mountains!
Nor could the Russians, or anybody else, and yet here we are right in the thick of things when we should be building a wall around the place and letting the locals sort things out themselves.
I hear all sorts of reasons why we "civilized" people are in Afghanistan, including the fight against Al Queda, terrorism in general, the heroin trade, oppression of their women and minorities, modernization of the country and on and on!
Well guess what kids?
It ain't gonna happen!
Those dark-ages tribes in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan don't wanna know about no modern world, or equal rights for women, or civilization or anything else for that matter!
These hillbilly's are perfectly happy just the way they are and nothin' is gonna change that!
Period!
Remember that law they just passed about their bitches...... sorry, I meant women!
Well check this out!
Mohammad Asif Mohseni, a top Afghan cleric who was one of the law's main drafters, said the legislation cannot be revoked or changed because it was enacted through a legislative process - passed by both houses of parliament and signed by Karzai.O.K. That part about the women putting their X or thumbprint on the petition proves that they are being downtrodden because they are not allowed to go to school or do anything else for that matter but unless we are willing to go and put a soldier in each house in Afghanistan to assure that the females are treated equally........ it just won't happen kids!
He condemned the outcry, saying western countries were trying to thwart democracy when results did not please them.
"The westerners claim that they have brought democracy to Afghanistan. What does democracy mean? It means government by the people for the people. They should let the people use these democratic rights," Mohseni told reporters in the capital, Kabul.
Surrounded by supporters, Mohseni unfurled reams of paper with hundreds of women's signatures and thumbprints backing the law.
(This is all bullshit because first of all, women can't vote, and second, they were probably beaten if they didn't sign it! -ED>)
The legislation came out of three years of debate and revision involving both Islamic scholars and members of parliament, Mohseni said.
Afghanistan is an Islamic state and its constitution defers to the Qur'an as the ultimate authority. Mohseni said the law simply reiterates rules from Islam's holy book.
"In Shariah law, it states that a woman cannot go out without the permission of her husband," he said. He argued that the law is permissive because it allows a woman to go out for a medical emergency or other urgent reason without asking beforehand. In addition, a couple can agree to opt out of this rule when signing a marriage contract, he said.
Mohseni said much of the uproar has come from people misinterpreting the law. He said a woman can refuse sex with her husband for many reasons beyond illness. For example, he said, a woman may be fasting for Ramadan, preparing for a pilgrimage, menstruating, or just given birth.
Trust me!

-Allan; We had no business there in the first place. History continues to repeat itself. Change requires a willingness to change from within and applying force only creates a willingness deceive.
Richard Regener,
-Allan; A good western perspective on the controversial law.
It might not be what Islamic Sharia promulgate but certain clerics like Mohseni and others are very fond of getting personal fame through such acts. However, their voices appear stronger since they are all men of jungles and mountains
