Roland has jumped to the defence of Miss California, Carrie Prejean who, since she answered a question regarding same-sex marriage in Sunday's Miss USA pageant honestly, has been savagely attacked by those who oppose what she had to say.
Now if you have been out of the country, unconscious for a few days, or just don't care about the Miss U.S.A. pageant like your long suffering author, what she said was that, "she doesn't agree with same sex marriage," and that comment cost her the crown.
(Carrie holds the same opinion that is shared by me and most of North America. "That marriage is between a mean and a woman, and one of the main reasons is to have kids.")
No big deal, no long story, no fancy footwork and explanations!
Period.
(If gays want to live common-law, together, co-habitate, live in sin, shack up or whatever, then good for them and I don't mind at all. After all, it's live and let live kids! I have lots of gay friends who live with someone of the same sex and don't mind a bit...... as long as they don't tell me their married!)
Marriage has been a sacred institution between a man and a woman since time immemorial and a bunch of gays trying to hijack it to give themselves credibility ain't gonna work folks!
No sir;
Just the same as the gay community claim that 10-12 percent of the population is homosexual or bisexual is just a lie to make themselves appear more mainstream, (The actual figure is 2 - 3 % bunky!) so their claim to marriage is an attempt to join the general population in an institution that, by it's very nature, must exclude them!
One of the biggest critics of Miss Carrie Prejean is a certain gossip queen who is on a personal mission to discredit Miss California further.
This is where we thank Roland Martin for his kind words;
Leading the burn-her-at-the-stake parade is media opportunist Perez Hilton, the self-described gossip queen, and the individual who kick-started this controversy by asking the initial question as to whether the issue of same-sex marriage should be left up to the states. In spite of Roands opinion of Miss Hilton, which I agree with, I think the main problem here is that a minority group is once again making so much noise that it has become "politicall incorrect" to question them under the guise of discrimination.
It seems that Hilton, who is gay, was none too pleased that Prejean chose to actually give her personal opinion on the issue, and ripped her on his blog after the show, using crude obscenities as he continued to attack her at every turn on his media blitz.
Hey, Hilton, from a real journalist to a wanna-be who traffics in gossip: Never ask a question if you're unprepared for the answer!
Put it this way folks, if I have a choice between Roland Martin and Perez Hilton to spend eternity on a small island with, (Roland, - man, black, straight, - Perez, - woman, white, queer!) I would have to go with Roland every time!
At least I would enjoy talking to him!
Oh WAIT, WAIT....... I keep forgeting, Perez Hilton is a GUY!
The way he talks..... I get confused sometimes......, oh well, all the more reason to go with Roland!

For the first time since we've been friends, I think I have to disagree with part of your post.
I am hopelessly straight, but I have had many friends over my 63 years in the GLBT community and I have worked for many.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN HIT ON BY ANY OF THEM! In fact, I had a very good friend who was lesbian that I used to go bar hopping with so that neither of us would get hit on.
Who really cares if it's called a "civil union" or a "marriage"? The difference is being used by corporate interests to deny any benefits required by contract.
Walker Bennett, SF Author,
Sorry you disagree Walker but I stand on my statements. Yes, I don't like corporate interests who use this to deny benefits, and that law should be changed, but lets call it what it is........ a civil union!
We are not going to change thousands of years of tradition and history because a small minority bitches!
(Well, maybe"bitches" wasn't the perfect word to use when descirbing something concerning gays!!!!)
Allan Janssen,
P.S. What's "never being hit on by anyone" got to do with what we are talking about?
- It was only meant to mean that they aren't to be feared or discriminated against.
Walker Bennett, SF Author,
Walker. my friend, you better quit while you're still ahead!
Allan Janssen
-I agree with Miss California and you Allan.Civil Union --- okay--- get it done at city hall and make civil unions something companies must recognize regarding benefits, etc.Marriage has always been one man+ one woman. Are we going to hijack that term too? I mean "Gay" used to be happy and "rainbow" used to refer to the phenomena that occurs in the sky after a rainstorm. Now homosexuals and lesbians want to re-define the word "marriage", too?Yes it's semantics--- but it's important to those of us who are "married".Oh hell... let's just rename lots of other words to reflect something 5-10% of the population want to rename it to.An example... I want to rob a bank... but i don't want to call it that... sounds sort of harsh now... doesn't it? So let's rename bank robbery and call it a "loan" rather than stealing. Does that make any sense? How does that affect others who have loans? Of course, stating an opinion about this subject puts a scarlet letter on your forehead... just witness the "outrage" from the Hollywood and gay communities regarding Miss California's stating her opinion... an opinion, I might add, is shared by over half of the voters in the State of California. But that is in fact we here we are in America now. OMG... let's not offend anyone!
Matt O.,
-May I vote on your and Ms. Prejean's marriage?I believe that the point Walker is making is that many straight men irrationally fear being hit on by a gay. Many straight men are accustomed to hitting on women.I believe in liberty (freedom) and justice (equality) and the right to the pursuit of happiness for all, and, therefore, support gay marriage. People who get to know gays realize that gays are just people. It is a lie to call this a free country!I am amazed at your post. I have always highly regarded you and your intelligence and wisdom. Not so much now!
Leo L.,
-Well gentlemen why don't we just abolish religion, morality, belief constructs, marrige and every other value that defines us. Why not just revert back to animalistic behavior where the only priority is survival and procreation. Is this not the road we are following as we deconstruct civilization?
Richard Regener,
-Matt, That is one of the main reasons I write this blog! I am the Don Quixote of reason, battling the windmills of political correctness!
Allan Janssen,
-No person nor church should be required to perform gay marriages.I'm pleased to see that there is acceptance of civil unions . However, gays can be as religious as anyone and desire marriage in their churches. They want the same benefits as everyone else.
Leo L.,
-Mr. Jansen, Your use of derogatory terms to describe Mr. Hilton like "gossip queen" simply shows your bigotry and prejudice.
You'll do anything to limit your view of him to a stereotype that allows you to discriminate against him instead of treating him with the respect and diginity of a human being.
The simple truth of the matter is that our nation is founded on the ideals that ALL men are created equal.
Currently, laws in a large portion of the country discriminate on an entire class of people without any justification.
Even if gays and lesbians make up only 2-3% of the population of the US, that is millions of people that are denied the protection of the laws.
This article, and Miss Prejean's comments, are simply prejudice and bigotry wrapped up in popular traditions. Popular support for denial of rights to a class of people does not make it right, moral, or just.
As the Supreme Court of Iowa noted regarding relying on tradition for justification of discrimination: "This approach is, of course, an empty analysis. It permits aclassification to be maintained for its own sake.
Moreover, it can allow discrimination to become acceptable astradition and helps to explain how discrimination can exist for such a longtime.
"Finally, I challenge you to understand what your fellow citizens are requesting - only that they be treated EQUALLY under the law.
They are not asking you to change your beliefs, which are already protected, only that you respect their rights to have equal protections of the law.
If your heart doesn't break at the sight of two people in love - begging to be treated with dignity and justice - may God, or whatever higher being you believe in, soon fill your heart with compassion for others.
Philip Dagostino,
-Phillip, keep this up and I'm gonna throw up!
Allan
-Matt you need to take Logic 101. Matt, your logic is way off when you compare robbing a bank and gay marriage.
Leo L.,
-Actully Leo, I wouldn't mind taking a run at Miss Perejean, but be that as it may your statement "People who get to know gays realize that gays are just people." shows that, in this case, you are an apologist who doesn't really get the naunces of the issue here!
Allan Janssen,
-Philip, that comment that so upset you was made by Roland Martin, not me!

-Matt, Since a separate designation seems OK to you for marriage, I guess you would like gays and lesbians to have separate restrooms and drinking fountains as well.
Separate is never equal. If you have any hesitation I'd suggest you google the "new jersey civil union review commission." Their in depth review of "civil unions" and Marriage clearly indicates that the separate designation simply made it easier for companies and businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians.
I doubt you feel that is an acceptable way to treat your fellow citizens.
Philip Dagostino,
-While I don't think it was fair of Perez to cost her the pagent by asking a loaded question, no matter which way she answered she was going to upset a portion of the crowd. I do applaud Miss Prejean for speaking her mind and stating what she believes. Mr. Hilton lives for the next headline, and looks for any opportunity to "out" anyone who doesn't believe what he does.Keep charging in Allan, PC is going to kill this country.
mark b.,
-I believe in liberty (freedom) and justice (equality) and the right to the pursuit of happiness for all, and, therefore, support gay marriage. People who get to know gays realize that gays are just people. Leo L.,
-I believe that all gay people are free to live together, have equality with others who are not gay, and can pursue anything they deem to bring them happiness.
The question is whether we will bow to their demands to have legal marriages which have been part of the mores of the world.
By keeping marriage between a man and a woman we are securing our society, keeping our human life intact well into the future.
Without a stable society, we will begin to shrivel into a despotic society.
If we give those who are deviants from the norm, the rights to have civil unions, they will indeed get the same civil rights as those who are married under the laws of the land.
I really don't see where this is something that can't be tolerated by the gay community.
If they are so benign as they do not want to hurt the greater good, then I would suppose they will accept the civil unions as the option.
But, if they cannot accept the civil union which would give them the rights they desire, then they will be viewed as only persons who are tearing down society and the structure that keeps it intact. That is my opinion.
Barbara B.,
Yea, right arm Barbara. I't like..... well you know..... gee I guess... YOU KNOW, WHAT SHE SAID! ......me too!
