I quite smoking the same way I quit drinking.
I'm not sure exactly when or where but it just got less and less until I just didn't do it anymore.
I have to say that the binge drinking was a lot harder to stop and I can't say that I will never go on a toot again, because I just don't know!
But!
I can tell you 100% for sure that I will never smoke again.
I quit that vile habit quite a few years ago, after many tries, when I got the flu!
I had to stay in bed for about a week and was too sick to smoke, so when I got better I was just about off the stuff anyway.
Both of these afflictions are not only disgusting, but life threatening as well! They not only negatively affect the life of the smoker/drinker, but everyone around them!
Two of my hero's in the radio business, [Remember, I was in broadcasting for quite a few years] Peter Gzowski of CBC Radio and J.P. MrcCarthy of WJR in Detroit had their lives cut short because of smoking.
This brings us to the tale of a certain Albert Whittamore, of London, England, who blamed his youthful smoking habit for the lung disease that killed him in last month.
Albert had his dying wish granted with the placement of a "Smoking killed me" sign on his hearse, and etched into his gravestone.
The sign was designed to look like the health warning on a packet of cigarettes.
(Now all he needs is a secret tape machine beside his grave that gives out a little cough every couple of hours!)
