Saturday Morning Confusion: Do we need guns at all?

Dear Readers;
Your erstwhile mild mannered reporter has created a petition on the White House website:

Ban ALL civilians from owning guns except when needed for subsistence hunting or wildlife control.

I believe that guns are only used to kill, and have no use or need, in modern society.

I realize this is a U.S. petition, but if it gains some traction then maybe the Harper government will pay attention as well!      (Needs 150 signatures to be seen by everyone!)
