One of the three seminal sounds of the sixties has been silenced.  (- the organ in ‘Light my fire,’  – the guitar in ‘Eight Miles High,’ – and Dylan wailing “How Does it Feel!”)

University of Florida  Jason Leon, left, gathers up a massive Burmese python he killed while riding late at night in a rural area of southeast Miami-Dade County.
b4s_python052113a_10809834_8colThe snake turned out to be 18 feet, 8 inches, the longest Burmese python ever captured in the wild in Florida. At right, unidentified staff from the University of Florida pose next to the creature, which university scientists found was 128 pounds and female, not carrying eggs at the time.
. About 3 feet of the snake was sticking out of the roadside brush. Leon stopped his car, grabbed the snake behind its head and started dragging it out of the brush.
When the snake began to wrap itself around his leg, he called for assistance from others and used a knife to kill it. Leon, the report said, once owned Burmese pythons as pets and has experience handling the nonvenomous constrictor species.

Victoria Day
It may be the birthday of Queen Victoria, but most of us know the May 2-4 long weekend as the unofficial kick-off to summer. (File photo)
The Monarchist League of Canada has come out against a call to give Victoria Day a new name. (Nationally, over 90% of all people thought this was a terrible idea folks!!!!!)
dynamic_resizeSparked by a collective of actors, politicians, and writers — including actor Peter Keleghan and writer Margaret Atwood — a petition urges Prime Minister Stephen Harper to give Victoria Day the name Victoria and First People’s Day.
The proposed change would mark the relationship between the Crown and Aboriginal Peoples, according to proponents.
However, Monarchist League spokesman Robert Finch suggested Monday that with National Aboriginal Day coming up on June 21 anyway, it could be made a holiday similar to Victoria Day.
“I’m all for creating more holidays,” he said. “I think every Canadian would be.”

CALGARY — Police say an unlicensed 15-year-old girl was behind the wheel of a car driving 77 km/h over the posted speed limit down the Queen Elizabeth II Highway on Monday
An off-duty cop spotted a black Nissan Altima headed south on the QEII Hwy. at a high rate of speed near Carstairs, Alta., north of Calgary, just before 9 a.m. and phoned it in.
“We had a couple of officers nearby who got to the highway and waited for it at the Hwy. 72 overpass,” Graw said.
The car zipped past the officers, who clocked it at 187 km/h in the 110 km/h zone and after catching up to it, pulled it over, he said.
An officer then saw the driver of the Altima switch places with a passenger, Graw said.
The driver, who police say is a 15-year-old Red Deer, Alta., girl without a driver’s licence, was taken to the police station where her parents were called, he said.

Wynne is winning and Hudak’s a dud.
Premier Kathleen Wynne and New Democrat’s Andrea Horwath are the most popular leaders in Ontario, leaving the Progressive Conservative’s Tim Hudak in the dust, according to a new Abacus Data poll.
“I think Wynne has a lot of appeal to a lot of voters,” Abacus Data CEO David Coletto said Monday. “She’s genuine. She’s got some authenticity to her and that is a refreshing change for a lot of people compared to (former premier) Dalton McGuinty. She’s in a pretty good position relative to the other leaders.”
About 34% of respondents said they had a positive impression of Wynne while Horwath was nearly tied with her Liberal competitor at 33%. Only 22% of Ontarians view Hudak in a positive light.
