Two separate teams of scientists have announced that blood transfusions from young individuals make older individuals younger, fixing their hearts and curing aging brains. Speaking to the New York Times, Harvard Medical School’s professor of neurology Rudolph Tanzi, “these findings could be a game changer.”
Tanzi, who is not associated to the studies, also said that he’s “extremely excited” by the results of the two papers. These studies are a follow up on the 1950s experiments by Dr. Clive M. McCay at Cornell University, and Dr. Vam P. Ire of the University of Vienna.
Dr. McCay discovered that, after conjoining mice by their blood vessels in a procedure called parabiosis, the older mice were clearly rejuvenated by the plasma of the younger mice. He couldn’t explain why this happened, however.
The new research papers show clear proof of how the process works and offer an explanation: The key is in the levels of some proteins that are more abundant in the younger blood and seem to awaken the stem cells, causing the creation of new, young tissue.

Dozens of residents in southern Ontario thought they saw a meteor streak across the sky Sunday afternoon, and an expert said there is little doubt that is what they spotted.
“There are dash-cam videos I’ve seen already posted to the internet that…clearly show what I would say is unequivocally a meteor,” said Peter Brown, a professor at the University of Western Ontario who studies meteors and meteorites!

One year ago, Adam O’Brien started reading and researching the digital currency bitcoin. Now, the 21-year-old is the founder of Bitcoin Solutions, an Edmonton-based company that recently brought Saskatchewan’s first bitcoin ATM to Saskatoon.
“I really saw an opportunity to make it understandable and accessible,” O’Brien said. “The accessibility of bitcoin was not where I wanted it to be or what I was searching for as a consumer.”
The ATM machine, located at 721 Broadway Ave. in the middle of Calories restaurant, exchanges Canadian dollars for bitcoins and bitcoins for cash. This feature makes it one of western Canada’s first two-way bitcoin ATMs, according to O’Brien.

“If you know absolutely nothing about bitcoin, our machine is open to brand new users,” O’Brien explained. “We actually generate a wallet right here for you instantly, for you then to be able to take home and import.”
In February, the digital currency took a major blow when a popular bitcoin exchange, Mt.Gox, went bust after swirling allegations of mass fraudulent activity after $370 million worth of bitcoins went missing, driving the price of the currency down.However, O’Brien said people can avoid losing their money to the intangible bitcoin, as long as they do their homework and stay in control of their own bitcoins with a digital wallet — akin to a cloud storage-style online space crossed with an email account.
“It is really important for consumers to understand that you have to hold your own bitcoin,” O’Brien said. “I use this analogy time and time again. If I had an envelope with $100,000 cash and I gave it to anyone on the street and said, ‘Hey, hold on to this for a couple days and I’ll be back for it next Tuesday’, chances are that money is not coming back. Bitcoin gives you the power to hold your own money. So don’t take that away from bitcoin.”
What can you buy in Saskatoon with bitcoin? O’Brien said Calories restaurant will soon be accepting it as payment for food and drinks. Despite its relative newness, he believes it will one day be a mainstream currency used to buy everything.
“If you look at what email did to post mail, I think bitcoin will do that in comparison to sending money all over the world,” O’Brien said.

Folks, religion has been a mystery and conundrum to me at the best of times …., and even amongst the smartest and most civilized people.
That’s why I can’t even begin to fathom the thinking behind some forms of Islamic extremism.
The Islamist militant group Boko Haram claimed responsibility on Monday for the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in northeast Nigeria last month and threatened to “sell them on the market,” the French news agency AFP reported, citing a video.
Boko Haram on April 14 stormed an all-girl secondary school in the village of Chibok, in Borno state, then packed the teenagers, who had been taking exams, onto trucks and disappeared into a remote area along the border with Cameroon.
The brazenness and sheer brutality of the school attack shocked Nigerians, who have been growing accustomed to hearing about atrocities in an increasingly bloody five-year-old Islamist insurgency in the north.
“I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah,” Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in the video, according to AFP.

It’s a hair-raising issue, folksApparently blacks don’t like being told they can’t wear “dreadlocks” and other “ethnic” haircuts!
The Armed Forces claim they want their service men and women to be presentable, and “a cut above!”
