Dear Readers:
Your ever faithful reporter has been listening to a lot of weekend political shows recently and one thing struck me as extremely strange!
It doesn’t matter who you talk about, the left wing, or the right wing, Canada or the States, it seems that anyone who is in one camp or the other, is in for the whole shootin’ match!
By that I mean there don’t seem to be any middle-of-the-road opinions anymore.
If you’re a left-winger it’s almost assured that you will be in a group that includes some, or even all of the following ……., an educator, union member, feminist, environmentalist, socialists, communists, animal rights activist, anti-globalization, politically correct, green, and maybe a member of of commune or co-op!
Left-wing politics are political positions or activities that accept or support social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. It is typically justified on the basis of concern for those in society who are perceived as disadvantaged relative to others and an assumption that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished.
The term “right wing” has been used to refer to a number of different political positions through history but they all have their basic mantra as well.
Although the term ‘right-wing’ originally designated traditional conservatives and reactionaries, it has also been used to describe neo-conservatives, nationalists, racial supremacists, climate change skeptics, Christian democrats, anti-communists, fascists, religious fundamentalists, support for free markets, privatization, and deregulation with traditional right-wing support for social conformity and those that adhere to the ‘status-quo!’
Why is it that everyone who plants their flag in one camp or the other has to drink the cool-aid for that group?
Can’t they pick and chose what’s good for them?
Don’t people think for themselves anymore …………………………..?
