Fix the damned dam!

Dear Readers:

I sent this letter to the London Free Press today!

Sir:  Madame:  To whom it may concern:

I see somebody wants to keep Springbank dam broken the way it is because there is some sort of turtle that might be endangered in that stretch of the river by having it work again.

Might I remind everyone that the city wanted to put an extension on Adelaide St. quite a few years ago, so that the missing part  between Commissioners and Southdale would finally be joined, thereby saving us a lot of time and money driving around a giant detour every day.

The only problem was that there were a couple of frogs, or butterflies, or something, in that field that might be endangered by the extension, (The train running through the field didn't seem to bother the wildlife too much!) so now ten or twenty years later we still have to drive the detour, even though the frogs and butterflies are long gone ...., but the train is till there!

Now I can sympathize with Ozwald's frustration folks, but in spite of the lack of publicity there have been quite a few offers of aid from other countries ......., both friends and foes alike!

Russia, the U.S., Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority have all offered help in fighting the northern Alberta wildfire, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says there's no need for international assistance.

Last week Vladimir Puchkov, the Russian minister of emergency measures, offered to send heavy water bombers and specialized crews to battle the fire that's been raging out of control near Fort McMurray.

John Babcock, a spokesman for Global Affairs Canada, says there have been a series of other offers since the crisis emerged last week and they have been reviewed against requirements.

So there ya go folks, we're quite capable of looking after things ourselves!
