I read a letter today from a guy who went to what we now refer to as a "residential school." In spite of the horror stories you've heard from the media this guy had nothing but good to say about them!
He said they taught him how to speak English (since he was from a tribe way up north) and conduct himself in modern society ......, as well as getting a good education. (This was the same result for a vast majority of the residents at these schools ...., according to him!) As a result he is now a professional in the work force and has basically never looked back!
Now this is a far cry from what we hear from the 'truth and reconciliation' crowd folks, and it makes me wonder if the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion to the actual facts.
Matter of fact two possibilities immediately come to mind, first it's an attempt to get sympathy, and second, it might be a ploy to get money from the government. (Now ya can't say THAT hasn't happened before!)
Now don't get me wrong folks, I'm not saying some of the stories we've heard aren't true, I'm just saying that they sound a lot like the hyped up claims about Roman Catholic priests molesting alter boys!
It happened, but not as often as people think.
And the same goes for all those "missing and murdered women," most of the time they were killed by someone from the same reserve. No big mystery there!
Yup, it's all hyped up and spit out to provide fodder for the media!!!!
(Boy I think I"m gonna get some letters on this one!)
