Dear Friends:
Apparently during WW2 my father spent every waking minute either hiding in ditches or behind trees (He got a job in the German army as a telegrapher, so he wouldn't have to carry a rifle, just a handgun.) and when the war ended he applied right away to emigrate to the United States where he had an uncle living in Iowa!
Seems a lot other Germans had the same idea and he was told that the waiting time was years-long... so he decided to go to Canada because he figured he could just go across the border from there and move in Iowa.
First off.... I don't think I would have been crazy about growing up as a farmer in Iowa....... but when I look back at the whole thing I realized that even if we had of made it to my dad's uncle's place..... I would still have ended up being a Canadian around 1967 or 1968!

The way I see it anyway!
