To me, to believe in the Bible or the Koran, (Especially a "Literal" Bible) is about as stupid as thinking this wonderful Universe just serendipitously popped up out of nothing one day!
It ain't gonna happen folks. And I feel strongly enough about this to be comfortable with my decision.
But, since this is the first of April, I thought this little story might be appropriate!
In Florida, an atheist launched a case against the observance of the Easter and Passover Holy days. Now not only am I no fool, but rather an opportunist who might adopt all three religions and combine them into one.
He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, and Jews and observances of their holy days.
The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized Days.
The case was brought before judge Edward Johanson . After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case Dismissed!"
The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case?” The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet My Client and all other atheists have no such holidays."
The Judge then said; Yes you do! Your client, and you Counsel, are woefully ignorant."
The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."
The judge said, "The calendar states April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states: 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.''
Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, Then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day.
This Court stands adjourned.
Call it the "Church of Allan!'
If we combined Christianity, Judaism and Islam then we would have all those holidays to celebrate plus............... Muslims have Friday as their holy day, Jews have Saturday and Christians have Sunday so we would have a three day weekend as well.
Another good reason to join the "Church of Allan"
(There would be no penance to do, no commandments to follow, [since you are old enough to know what's right and wrong,] no special diets or observances, no trying to convert or save someone else, no dress code......... none of that stuff. All you have to do is take a second or two each day and thank God for this wonderful universe we live in!)

-Allan; Great article

-Allan; How about this instead: How about I work 10-20 hours a week cooking in a charity-based kitchen facility for people who otherwise would have no dinner and give freely of my time and my talent toward that end?
Would I still have to acknowledge the Church of Allan or any other? (I think not)

-Sorry, I am not totally humorless - I dig the joke, I appreciate your humor about the Church of Allan, etc. It's merely that I tire of people thinking that God's name is the only motivator in doing good deeds or giving unselfishly.
Happy April Fool's Day, Allan.

-Kenn, OK, in your honour we are going to have one commandment. Ya have to do a certain amount of weekly charity work instead of tithing!

-AllanI have my own private religion. There are only two sins: Harming other living beings in any way. Harming our environment which we leave for others. Want to fault me or join my religion?

Leo; I have often thoght that the ideal religion would only have one rule; Non Interference, do anything you want as long as you don't interfere with someone else's right to do anything they want!
