Billy Bob Bonked!

William Robert Thornton, actor, writer, director and sometimes singer, is in fact Billy Bob Thornton, the hillbilly pride of Hot Springs Arkansas.

Billy Bob has got himself a band called the "Boxmasters," and they are currently the opening act for Willie Nelson.

Seems Billy and the Boys had some trouble last night, but before we get into that let me tell you what lead up to it all!

Two days ago Billy did a promotional gig on the CBC network with Jian Ghomeshi's mid morning show called "Q!"

Now contrary to what Billy Bob thought, "Q" was not some hick Arkansas radio station, but on the contrary is a CBC Canada program that spans the country and has a listening audience that numbers about two million!

We are not sure what started it all, but it had something to do with Billy being the usual celebrity "dick" and not wanting to talk about movies...... only his music!

After the interview Thornton told the crowd he was upset after Ghomeshi introduced him as an "Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor and director."

He said CBC producers had previously assured him that his movie career would not be mentioned during the interview.

During the interview on Q, he was belligerent, swore and said performing for Canadian audiences was like "mashed potatoes with no gravy" because they are more reserved and less raucous than American audiences.

"Mr. Thornton" got his nose out of joint and pulled a "Joaquin Phoenix!"

Actually, that's not doing him justice, since his attitude was arrogant, strange, condescending and childish, while Joaquin was just plain strange when he was on Letterman.

During Wednesday's radio show, Thornton refused to answer many questions directly.

When asked about his inspirations for music, Thornton discussed a magazine he subscribed to and a model-building contest he once entered.

Then, Ghomeshi asked about Thornton's passion for music.

"Would you say that to Tom Petty?" Thornton shot back.

When the radio host suggested that mentioning Thornton's movie career was relevant to provide context for listeners, Thornton responded testily: "There's plenty of context without all that."
More than 600,000 viewers had watched the clip on YouTube by 8 p.m. Thursday. A CBC spokesperson also said the network received more than 4,000 blog responses and emails regarding the appearance.

The CBC and Ghomeshi were very civilized about Billy Bob's behaviour, and tried to keep the interview going as long as possible, but Thornton finally did the whole thing in and left with everybody scratching their heads wondering what had just happened!

Now, that was two days ago...... Last night he went to Massey Hall and tried to open for Willie Nelson but got booed for the whole set.

That is until he cut it short and stormed off.

"Boo all you want," Thornton told the Massey Hall crowd, "but I want to say something. We're really happy to be here, but I need to say something. I talked to this asshole yesterday and it was bogus."

Somehow I think this guy is going to get a bad reception for the rest of the dates in Canada so Willie might want to think about replacing him.

After all, this ain't Arkansas bunky!

P.S. If you want to see the interview, we now present it for your viewing pleasure.

Take it away Billy!!!!!!!

----------------------------------------------------

Now, I am going to add some comments of my own here instead of during the piece itself since it is only my opinion.

I worked in Radio and Television for many years and have interviewed many people a lot more interesting and talented than Mr. Billy Bob Thornton.

I used to think that he and Angelina Jolie broke up because she was the weird one, but now I'm not too sure!

Maybe they're both nuts.

I don't know!

I just know that I have a lot of respect for Jian Ghomeshi and his composure, because if some would-be singer came in to my studio and we did him the favour of promoting his appearance on the show........ and he then turned around and made demands and pulled a hissy-fit....., his ass would have been out the studio door in about 30 seconds.

It might be one of my failings, but I don't take fools quietly or lightly!

-Allan; The man was jerk, plain and simple. And I laughed when he compared himself to Tom Petty. Tom Petty is a long established musician, who has payed his dues. Even if old Billy Bob is trying to be a serious musician, he still needs to earn his respect in the music business.
