Happy Easter, or, Sunday Morning Musings!

First of all, Happy Easter to all my friends and relatives, and I hope you are all having a nice quiet, family type long weekend!

I still observe the Christian holidays because that's how I was brought up, although I must say that to avoid being a hypocrite I really shouldn't acknowledge them.

I have been asked if I even believe Jesus every lived or is just a myth and I have to say that all the evidence points to there being a "Historical Jesus" and some of his travels and deeds have a grain of truth to them as well.

As for the existence of "Christ" that is better left to this description in the book "The Plain Truth About God!"

We have to keep in mind, and never lose sight of the fact that the historical “Jesus” was culturally a product of the ancient Near East, and in an area under Roman sovereignty.

“Christ” was a product of the people and times that came after him, most notably Pauline thought, as well as a Greek influence.

The parables and stories of the historical Jesus were the product of a first century Jewish “rabbi-sage-cynic” from Galilee who had an enormous influence on a handful of people around him.

We will refer to the historical figure as “Jesus” from now on, and the person of mythology as being the “Christ” of our modern religion.

Christianity, in its simplest terms, is the result of previous centuries of Jewish and Greek myth and conjecture.

It’s all about the coming of a “Messiah,” and revolves around the Resurrection.

The teachings of Jesus were altered to fit the legend but definitely took a secondary role.

We all know that the gospels were composed many years after the death of not only Jesus, but even of most of the people who knew him directly.

Not only were these Gospels displaced in time, but were also displaced culturally, and since Greek speaking Christians composed them, even further meaning was lost in translation from the Aramaic.

There are now two main, and disparate, schools of thought about the origin of Christianity.

The first, and mistaken belief is that Jesus himself, as well as his teachings, was the founder.

The other is that the Christ or “Anointed One” of the Resurrection, (Shaped by Pauline thought) is the bases of this religion.

This may seem to be a small distinction upon first inspection, but in the end a very crucial one.

If it is based on the teachings, and more importantly, the example of Jesus, then his words take on enormous significance.

If, on the other hand, the “Resurrection” and “Pauline thought” is taken as the bases for Christianity, then it is based on the ideas and beliefs of the people who came after him!
Even the Crucifixion needs to be looked at realistically and then we find that Jesus might very well have been nailed to a cross for pissing off the Roman government, and also the local Jewish hierarchy, who saw him as a threat to the established order and didn't do anything to save him!

So, I guess in my Christianity we would celebrate Good Friday, because we choose to believe that Jesus died for our sins, but Sunday would just be another day, since once they killed him................ that was it!

(I must be nuts..... I just got an image in my head of Jesus up on the cross...., a fat lady in viking costume comes out of the crowd..., stands before Jesus....., and then starts to sing!)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This mornings "Sunday Morning Funnies," wasn't all that funny in retrospect!

More like cute than anything else, so that should be a good lesson not put it together at 1 o'clock in the morning.

Oh well!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just read a story in the Sunday morning paper where this 42 year old broad had a 21 year old son who was killed somehow or other.

She immediately went and got a court order to have a sperm sample taken from his body and frozen.

Now she's gonna find some woman to get artificially knocked-up and deliver the baby!

After a doctor told her that nothing more could be done for her son, Missy Evans came up with the idea of harvesting his sperm. She discussed the idea with her ex-husband, her older son and other family members, and said all supported her wish to help a part of Nikolas live on through his future offspring.

She said her son once told her he wanted three sons and had already picked out names. She described Nikolas as an "old soul" interested in film making, politics, music and old movies.

"My son wanted to graduate from college. He wanted to have children. And someone took that away from him," said Evans, 42, of Bedford, located between Dallas and Fort Worth.
First of all ya gotta wonder about someone with a first name like "Missy," but with all that said, This woman is bound a determined to raise her son, (?) grandson, (?) as her own!

Boy.........! Could Freud have a field day with that one!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems Billy Bob Thornton is safely back in California or wherever he hangs his hat, and I don't think he will be back up north for a while.

(He did make the movie "Pushing Tin" in Toronto!)

I don't know if it was because Billoy Bob is a hick from Arkansas, a celebrity with "Hollywood Disease," or just an asshole but he sure did piss-off a lot of people up here.

Neeless to say........ he won't be missed!

-Happy Easter Allan;
Your article is very interesting. In fact Jesus Christ choose India as a place for learning and he studied Buddhism and other religions here.

-Well V.J. That has not been proven, but I do discuss the possibility in my Book! (Those were the "Lost Years" before he turned thirty!)
