One saved, 230 to go!

I'm glad to see that the hostage situation concerning the merchant ship Maersk Alabama has been resolved, but serious problems remain.

NAIROBI, Kenya - In a daring high-seas rescue, U.S. navy SEAL snipers killed three Somali pirates and freed the American sea captain who had offered himself as a hostage to save his crew.

The operation was a victory for the world's most powerful military but angry pirates vowed Monday to retaliate.

Those threats raised fears for the safety of some 230 foreign sailors still held hostage in more than a dozen ships anchored off the coast of lawless Somalia.

"From now on, if we capture foreign ships and their respective countries try to attack us, we will kill them (the hostages)," Jamac Habeb, a 30-year-old pirate, told The Associated Press from one of Somalia's piracy hubs, Eyl. "(U.S. forces have) become our No. 1 enemy."

Tough words folks, and usually spoken by cowards whose bluster is bigger than their bite!

Listen folks, this piracy thing is not going to go away until a joint statement is made by the Navies of several countries at once, in the form of a communique that states something like this:

We ____________ advise any individuals engaging in acts of piracy on the high seas that, although we will do everything possible for the safety of the hostages, let it be known that the penalty for piracy from now on is immediate execution.

The only exception will be for hostages currently being held and if they are immediately released then free passage will be given to their captors.

Piracy is a situation where there is no possibility of mistaken identity or question of quilt and our forces have been instructed to kill you while trying to free the hostages, or immediately after your surrender!

There is no negotiation nor appeal regarding this order, so please act accordingly!

That'll fix 'em!
