Saturday Morning Confusion! #73

U.S. politics has got me really confused!

I was driving down the parkway along the St. Clair river yesterday and since I couldn't get any London or Toronto radio stations here on the Michigan border I decided to turn on an old favorite of mine, WJR 760 radio in Detroit.

(WJR was the top MOR station in Detroit back in the late 60's, and the station I briefly worked at, CKLW-800 "The Big Eight," was the #1 rock and roll station. It helped establish "The Motown Sound!")

Imagine my surprise when I found out that WJR has turned into a solid right wing republican talk radio station, and featured Rush Limburger in their early afternoon slot.

Never having really heard Mr Limburger much before, I decided to give him a few minutes to see what he was all about, and as I listened I slowly felt the hair on the back of my neck starting to stand on end!

Now I have to stop for a second and tell you that here in Canada I consider myself a Conservative by nature, so what I was hearing from Rush Limburger made me squirm in my seat and wonder what the hell the world was coming to!

Never have I heard such right wing vitriol before........, spewed with outright hate and contempt for not only the middle and left, but anyone who didn't agree with their particular dogma.

Naturally they are against a national health care system since they consider it more government control of things, even if it does mean that U.S. citizens are actually second class when it comes to their health and welfare.

BUT!

When Limburger and his buddies repeatedly compare President Obama to Adolf Hitler and his health care policies to Nazi tactics you have to wonder what the United States of America is coming to.

Oh, I know the Republicans will say and do anything they can, no matter how vile, to discredit the Democrats, but when they start comparing them to the Nazi's it's going way overboard.

“They were for abortion and euthanasia of the undesirables,” Limbaugh said of the Nazis on his radio program. “And, as we all know, they were for cradle-to-grave nationalized health care.”
(The inference being that the Democrats are no better than the Nazi's were!)

This is one of the lowest examples of guilt by association and mud slinging that I have ever seen, but that is not to say there is no place for a Nazi analogy in this debate.

The Nazis rose to power by mastering the art of propaganda, repeating lies so frequently and so widely that eventually people took them as truth.

Hence the importance of seeking out the truth, and exposing those who would engage in such deceit.

Like the Republicans!
