The left-wing is crazy and the right-wing scares the shit out of me!

How far right is too far right?

As am impartial third party observer I have been watching the political situation in the United States with increasing alarm for quite some time now!

Helped along by 9/11 and a bunch of other events that give weight to the extreme right wing conservative viewpoint, I see the States slowly polarizing itself into two camps with less and less thought given to the traditional middle!

Nobody realized the full extent of the shift in American ideology during the Bush Administration since it was just buried under the mountain of government policy that hides dramatic swings in direction by its own weight and inertia.

Working with the same fervor that a right wing Christian will use to support creationism or a 6000 year old earth, the Republican Party shifted the basic foundations of the American Right so far over that a gaping hole was left in the center.

Here in Canada both the Liberals and Conservatives fight to position themselves in the middle, but the situation in the U.S. of A. has galvanized each side to stake their claims further and further from the middle.

When this is combined with a two party, as opposed to a multi-party system, a black hole is left in the middle (Sorry Barack!) that only serves to polarize both viewpoints and ideology.

This has become increasingly obvious since the Republicans were turfed out and now have to rely on rhetoric and bombast to support their position on matters.

(There has even been talk of editing the King James Version of the Bible to more accurately reflect the Right Wing Fundamentalist viewpoint....... never mind the fact that the Bible is supposedly inerrant and the literal word of God!)

Like a village idiot shouting from the top of a bell tower, people such as Rush Limburger and that "Sanity" guy become increasingly shrill in their condemnation of anything and anyone that doesn't toe their ideological party line.

Given the quality of some of the proclamations made by the right in the past six months I start to wonder when it was that they crossed the line from just being silly to being dangerous!

One thing for sure, that line is quickly receding in the rear-view mirror and what’s ahead for the States is uncharted territory but not without precedence!

If I remember correctly, something similar happened to Germany back in the 30's!
